POULSBO — A car crashed into the front of Sleep Country USA at College Marketplace Feb. 13, sending shattered glass into the store but reportedly resulting in no injuries.

The crash was reported at 10:35 a.m., according to Poulsbo Fire Deputy Chief Bruce Peterson. A witness described the car as a late-model Audi.

Ally Dahlhauser, one of the store’s sleep consultants, was the only person in the store and said if this … had to happen, she’s “thankful” it hit her store and not the hair salon next door.

“There’s always customers” at Super Cuts, she said.

There were no customers inside the mattress store, and Dahlhauser said she was at her computer when she heard a loud noise.

“I just looked over and there was a car in my store,” she said. She said the man did not appear disoriented, but a little embarassed and “clearly shaken.”

“I’ve not been in a lot of car accidents, but it’s definitely a noise you don’t forget,” she said. The store will be boarded up and secured by the end of the day, and she was told repairs could take up to two weeks.

The cause of the crash could not be confirmed by the Herald; this story will be updated with more details as they become available.

It’s the second storefront crash at College Marketplace in 21 months. On May 2, 2011, Toyota Highlander SUV crashed into the front window of Payless ShoeSource. The driver — a Brinnon woman in her 70s — was apparently distracted and thought her vehicle was in park when her foot hit the accelerator, Poulsbo Police Sgt. Andy Pate said at the time. The woman was not cited.
