Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies have located a car used by suspects in the April 9 burglary of a Gorst gun store.

Deputy Scott Wilson, KCSO spokesman, reported someone call 911 to report a suspicious car left in the 6400 block of Crossing Place SW in South Kitsap on April 10. The vehicle — a 1995 Lexus ES sedan —  was located abandoned just before 10 p.m.

“Significant effort had taken place to try and alter the appearance of the car,” Wilson reported.

The Washington State Department of Licensing advised that the Lexus was reported sold on April 5. The car was impounded pending issuance of a search warrant for investigators to enter the car to obtain evidence.

Wilson said KCSO detectives continue their investigation of this burglary as they follow-up on leads, tips, witness interviews, reviewing evidence and continuing to analyze the store’s security system video footage.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U. S. Department of Justice is assisting with the investigation.

During the early morning of April 9, two suspects apparently broke into Boerner Firearms in Gorst and stole more than a dozen firearms.

The store owner reported 17 guns were taken, according to media reports.

Deputies were able to extract an image of the car from the store’s security surveillance system. One suspect was described as wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt over a baseball cap and wearing a light-colored mask.

Wilson said the alarm was activated at 4:53 a.m. and South Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighter, who were station across the highway from the store, responded first. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene a short time later, and Bremerton police also responded and assisted deputies with clearing the building.
