POULSBO — Carl E. Neuswanger of Poulsbo, formerly of Bainbridge Island, died March 2 under Hospice care. He was 70.

He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on Dec. 18, 1941 to Frank R. and Marguerite Root Neuswanger. His father was killed in action in Europe in 1944.

In 1948, his mother remarried a career soldier, Donald Holland, and the family lived in Germany, Panama, Connecticut and Colorado.

He graduated in 1960 from Fountain Valley High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. and in 1965 from University of Idaho (architecture). He met the love of his life, Sharon Lee Neal, there, marrying her after his second year of college.

He worked for architects in Idaho Falls, Idaho, became chief architect for the Federal Housing Administration in Boise, and went to work for HUD’s Seattle office in 1984. He retired after 31 years of federal service.

He was an avid outdoorsman and artist. He was a member of the Elks, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Shilshole Bay Yacht Club, Eagle Harbor Yacht Club, and several car enthusiast’s clubs.

He his survived by Sharon, his wife of 49 years; daughters, Sabrina and Tara; brothers, R. Russell Neuswanger and Dee Holland; and three grandsons, Cruz, Max and Bodie.

Memorial service will take place at Bainbridge Island First Baptist Church on March 31, 1 p.m.
