The annual Kingston Cove Yacht Club Salmon Derby gets underway at sunrise on Saturday, Nov 3. Anyone with a valid Washington State Fishing License and punch card who buys a derby ticket and catches a salmon between Foul Weather Bluff and Jefferson Head on the day of the event is eligible to enter. Kids and their families are especially encouraged to participate in this community event.
Last year the top prize went to Debbie Caldero of Hood Canal for her 10-pound, 2-ounce silver. Prizes − cash and merchandise generously donated from local businesses − will be given away to entrants (must be present to win) with special awards going to the biggest fish and most mysterious catch. Fish must be checked in no later than 2 p.m. The Kingston Cove Yacht Club will serve hot dogs and chili 2-4:30 p.m. during the awards; the bar will also be open.
Entry tickets, which must be purchased before fishing, are $20 per person and available in advance at Henery Hardware, the Port of Kingston office, or at the port boat ramp the morning of the derby.
The rules:
(1) Valid fishing license and punch card.
(2) Salmon must be legal size.
(3) No gillnetting.
(4) No barbed hooks.
(5) No fish from outside Foul Weather Bluff to Jeff. Head zone.
(6) Must be present to win.
