Pamela McNeil died Feb. 26 due to accidental drowning

The Kitsap County Coroner’s Office determined the death of Pamela Lorraine McNeil, whose body was found in a ditch near Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor Feb. 27, was accidental.

Alcohol was in McNeil’s system as the time of her death, according to the Coroner’s Office.

McNeil’s body was found in a drainage ditch on the west side of NW Clear Creek Road, near Gate 1 of Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor.

The Coroner’s Office confirmed McNeil drowned, and had alcohol in her system, but would not provide more detail into McNeil’s death.

A county employee conducting maintenance in the area called 911 to report finding McNeil’s body, Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said at the time.

McNeil’s body was found in an heavily travelled area, with neighborhoods nearby and within a four-minute walk of Clear Creek Elementary School. Wilson theorized that if she had died earlier than the previous evening, her body would not have gone unnoticed. He said it’s possible she died the previous evening.

An obituary for McNeil says she was born Jan. 27, 1957 and died Feb. 26, 2014.

A memorial for McNeil was held at Island Lake Park Community Center April 6.
