Students from Cedar Heights Junior High School demonstrated their engineering and scientific expertise at the third annual ROV competition at Olympic High School on May 31.

More than 30 teams from the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas designed, built and controlled underwater robotic vehicles.

The competition included challenges in the pool as well as technical and innovation presentations by the students.

Cedar Heights students Nick Willis and Shon Faulkner took first place scoring 1,460 out of 1,500 points. In addition to their trophies, they also both won a set of home theatre VR glasses.

They also received an award for best presentation with a perfect score on that portion of the competition.

Cedar Heights students Avery Anderson and Patrick Pierson placed third in the contest. They were awarded trophies and annual family passes to the Pacific Science Center.

This is the third time Cedar Heights students took two of the top three places in this competition, but the first time they won the gold.
