POULSBO — It’s a holiday tradition that’s stood in the community for 15 years, and Janet Plemmons said she’s happy to keep it going.
Plemmons, Innkeeper at Poulsbo’s Manor Farm Inn, will host the inn’s 16th annual Toys for Tots Benefit, Dec. 1. Although she’s only owned the business for three years, Plemmons said there was never any doubt in her mind that she would continue to hold the benefit.
“In all the years past, it’s felt really good. It’s fun to know you’re helping a child not have an empty Christmas,” she explained of her motivation.
Besides benefiting a charity that helps local children, the event is a country Christmas celebration. A $3 admission gets attendees access to activities like hayrides, caroling, pony rides and a farm animal petting barn. There will also be live entertainment like Tilly the Clown and a demonstration by a real sheep herding dog.
“That’s pretty neat to see,” Plemmons remarked of the demonstration.
Food booths carrying espresso, crepes and chili will be available to feed the masses.
Most of the benefit’s activities will be outside, so those attending are advised to dress for the weather. This event happens rain or shine.
And since the star of the day is really Toys for Tots, Marine Corps members will be on hand with their bulldog mascot to receive new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots. Plemmons said she never keeps track of how many toys are donated each year, but she figures it’s usually quite a haul.
“It’s kind of hard to tell how many we get because they put (the toys) in a large barrel and take them with them when they leave. But it’s usually a couple of barrels,” Plemmons said.
Donations of non-perishable food items for Fishline Food Bank will also be accepted at the event.
The 16th annual Manor Farm Inn Benefit for Toys for Tots will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Dec. 1 at The Manor Farm Inn, 26069 Big Valley Rd. NE. For more information call (360) 779-4628.
