The Central Kitsap School Board will discuss Wednesday the likelihood of teacher layoffs for the next school year.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. at the district administrative building, 9210 Silverdale Way NW, for a study session regarding budget and staffing.

The board will adjourn and meet again at 6:30 p.m. for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Superintendent Greg Lynch addressed the Central Kitsap Community Council April 21 and said the district has been able to avoid teacher layoffs in the past, but that may no longer be an option.

“Now, we’ve got no choice,” he said, adding that decreasing enrollment and less money from the state each year causes a “perfect storm” for administrators.
