The yellow-colored “Sheriff’s Line – Do Not Cross” crime scene tape will be cut Aug. 24 to open a new Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office community information center at the Kitsap Mall.
The new office will be open “as much as practical” during regular mall hours, according to a statement from the office. It will serve as an extension of the sheriff’s office.
The public will be able to make inquiries, request copies of incident and collision reports and file certain types of complaint reports. The space will be staffed primarily by the sheriff’s community resource officer, a sheriff’s support specialist and volunteers.
“People usually don’t make a point of visiting the county courthouse or any of the sheriff’s offices unless they have business to conduct,” said Sheriff Steve Boyer. “But they do visit the mall in significant numbers.”
The cost to the sheriff’s office for the project was about $37,000.
