EGLON — A former community church leader charged with child molestation last month pleaded guilty this week to the crime.

Scott Williams Roberts, 44, of Eglon has been in jail on a $100,000 bail since pleading not guilty May 3 in Kitsap County Superior Court.

At a June 2 hearing, Roberts changed his plea to guilty to the charge of child molestation in the first degree. His bail was revoked but he will remain in custody until his July 12 sentencing.

Neil Wachter, division head for the special assault unit for the Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, said Roberts will be petitioning the court at his sentence hearing for a special sex offender sentencing alternative (SOSA).

SOSA is a sentence in which the defendant undergoes treatment, in addition to possible jail time. The standard jail sentence for this particular offense is 51 to 68 months, Wachter said.

Roberts has no prior felony record.

The former pastor of the Eglon Community Church was arrested by Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Deputies April 28. According to KCSO documents, the incident occurred while the victim and several of her siblings were having a sleepover at Roberts’ house in February.

The 9-year-old victim reported that she woke up in the middle of the night to feel Roberts inappropriately touching her back and her hand with his “private parts.”

The victim told her siblings, who told their uncle. Roberts was confronted by the uncle and admitted to his actions. He later stepped down as elected pastor of the church.

The Sheriff’s Office wasn’t notified of the incident until April 23. Deputies confronted and arrested Roberts, who admitted to performing such actions.
