Following discussion during the June 18 work session, the City Council voted to amend the City’s Muncipal 2012 Building Codes, but repealing portions of the code concerning plumbing, energy and indoor air.

The building codes took effect July 1.

The Washington State Building Code Council periodically adopts a revived building code. In November, the group adopted the 2012 edition of the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Code, International Existing Building Code and 2012 Uniform Plumbing Code.

The ordinance was revised to eliminate any changes to fence permitting and height requirements. Fences higher than 6 feet require a permit.

In other action, the Council voted to accept a donation of public art from an anonymous source to serve as a veteran’s memorial at the June 25 meeting.

The sculpture, created by local artist Karsten Boysen, is titled “Nike,” which refers to the Greek goddess who personifies victory.

The Council will determine a location for the art and installation date for the artwork. The artist will store the sculpture until installation.

The City will provide a pedestal for the artwork.
