POULSBO — There’s a large and growing stack of sandwich boards at the City of Poulsbo public works yard, 780 NE Iverson St.

“These are just the ones our crews have picked up along SR 305,” Public Works Superintendent Mike Lund said of the signs, which had been placed without permits and were confiscated by the city.

“The owners can come pick them up anytime. There’s no fine or anything. But [the signs] need to have permit stickers on them if the owners want to put them out again.”

Sandwich boards that are going to be displayed more than 14 days a year are considered permanent display signs and need a permit sticker. So you needn’t worry about getting a permit sticker for that sign advertising a weekend garage or rummage sale.

The city has required permits since 2013. Originally, the permits cost $50, but now the permit stickers are free. They are good from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 and must be renewed annually. Just fill out the application form that can be downloaded at www.cityofpoulsbo.com/planning/sandwichboardsigns.htm.

The site clearly spells out requirements regarding quantity, size, location and hours the sandwich signs can be displayed, so read the online brochure and FAQ at the website carefully before you spend money having a sandwich board sign made.
