POULSBO — Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson has hired a new city clerk.

Kylie Purves, a lawyer with Cross, LaCross & Murphy in Port Orchard, has been offered the job. “She’s an attorney, she’s been practicing law in Kitsap County for about 10 years,” Erickson said. “She’s a very nice young woman, and funny.”

Purves will leave her position at Cross, LaCross & Murphy for the Poulsbo job. She will start during the first week of January; her salary has been set at $74,900.

Purves was selected out of a field of 38 applicants, Erickson said.

Purves succeeds Jill Boltz, who left the job to become secretary to the board of Kitsap Transit. Boltz was Poulsbo’s city clerk for more than six years. Previously, she was administrative secretary and interim deputy clerk of Port Orchard.

From her work as an attorney, Purves has experience in criminal defense, municipal and county contracting, administrative law, employment law, personal injury litigation, and federal civil rights claims.

According to the city’s website, the City Clerk’s Office is responsible for “processing all ordinances, resolutions, legal publications, contracts/agreements, real property documents, lawsuits and claims for damages filed against the city.”

Other functions include “preparing and monitoring the Legislative and Clerk budgets, conducting the census for newly annexed areas as well as coordinating the annual census requirements, maintaining the city’s records and ensuring the preservation of essential documents.”
