POULSBO — North Kitsap will have something to celebrate on the Third of July, according to the city of Poulsbo. Mayor Kathryn Quade announced Wednesday night the 20th anniversary of the Little Norway event will occur this year. The announcement followed two weeks of reports from previous event organizers, who said the economically stifled and deadline-challenged show would not go on.
“As a long-standing tradition in Poulsbo, the Third of July has been valued by our friends and neighbors,” reads a city press release, sent Thursday morning. “This 20th Anniversary will mark a milestone for decades of hard work and dedication by many. Originally a Keyport event, then managed by Community Events Production, and most recently by Sandra Peterson and Mike McLaughlin, the history of Fireworks on the Fjord is strong. A huge ‘thank you’ must go out to Mike and Sandy for their extraordinary contribution to our community.”
The statement goes on to say a new committee of volunteers has stepped forward to continue the historic Poulsbo celebration in 2009.
“Although it will be challenging, the community is calling for this event to happen, even if it is in moderation,” it reads.
