Bremerton’s Transportation Benefit District Board, made up of city council members, is set to meet this week to finalize plans for spending about $250,000 next year on preserving non-residential streets.

The money comes from the city council’s 5-4 decision last December to impose a $20 fee on city residents registering their cars and trucks. The money is collected by the state and then forwarded to the city two months later for transportation related projects.

At the time of the vote, the council decided to seek a $20 tax, the maximum allowable under, law rather than $15. A choice to keep the Kitsap County government from grabbing the $5 away from the city.

There was sixth month waiting period before the fees could actually be collected, but the transportation board already has a list of 48 projects for 2013 that will cost an estimated $250,900.

Revenue projections for 2013 show the city raising $420,354 through the car tax. Funding is set to last through the middle of 2015 and any extension beyond that will have to be voted on by the board.

Some of the work under consideration this week includes road projects in 2013 on Riddell Way, from the county line to Wheaton Way ($24,500); Sheridan Road, from Schley to Bullard ($20,500); 6th Street, from High to Veneta ($17,000); Austin Drive, from Kitsap Way to the bridge ($17,350); Halverson, from 30th to 31st ($13,000); Charleston Blvd., from Cambrian to Callow ($10,000); Marine Drive, from Kitsap to Bertha ($9,000); 15th Street, from Arvon to Henry ($8,450); Wheaton Way, from Campbell to Lebo ($7,500); Naval Avenue, from 11th to 12th ($6,500); East 11th Street, from Perry to Hayward ($5,500); and 2nd Street, from Washington to the end of the road ($7,000).
