CK Fire board to vote on ambulance fee increases

On the agenda for action is a resolution that would raise transport fees 1.6 percent and would raise the mileage rate from $15 to $16 per mile

Fire commissioners will take another look at the ambulance transport fees charged to residents of the Central Kitsap area when the board meets Monday. The board will meet at 4 p.m. at the CK Fire administration building at 5300 NW Newberry Hill, Silverdale.

On the agenda for action is a resolution that would raise transport fees 1.6 percent and would raise the mileage rate from $15 to $16 per mile.

Basic rates would go to $600, a $9 increase; advanced ALS 1 service would go to $782, a $12 increase, and ALS 2 rates would be $887, a $14 increase.

Commissioners began discussing the increase in rates at their last meeting. The original increase was proposed to be 2.5 percent, but it was recommended by commissioners that that be reduced to 1.6 percent to better reflect the consumer price index rate of inflation.

Commissioners also are being asked to increase fees charged for five additional procedures that are performed in the field, including intravenous fluids and an electrocardiogram.

While commissioners are expected to increase the rates by 1.6 percent and the $1 per mile, they have yet to endorse the itemization increases. Also on the agenda is a report by Assistant Chief Jay Lovato on staffing at stains in the CK Fire District.

The meeting is open to the public and commissioners will take public comments during the meeting.
