Central Kitsap High School received a 2011 Washington Achievement Award for Closing Achievement Gaps, according to a statement Tuesday from the Central Kitsap School District. Central Kitsap is one of two high schools in the state to receive this award based on its minority students performing as well or better on statewide assessments than its majority groups over the past two years. Washington Achievement Awards are sponsored by the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the state Board of Education. This is the first year schools are being recognized specifically for closing achievement gaps, stated the statement.
