Around 6:45 p.m., firemen from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Silverdale Safeway on Silverdale Way.
“It was a fire in a wok in the deli department,” said CKF&R Spokeswoman Ileana LiMarzi. “The suppression system put it out, but there was heat and smoke extension into the hood and duct system.”
Despite fire alarms ringing throughout the store, shoppers seemed unfazed and did not evacuate the store prior to the fire personnel arriving. No injuries were reported. Firemen climbed on top of the roof and inspected the kitchen as well for fire damage and safety concerns.
“The firefighters ensured everything was safe and the deli department is shut down for now,” LiMarzi said.
