Starting this fall, the Central Kitsap School district will bring free, full-day kindergarten to all 12 of its elementary schools.
For this school year, the district offered free, full-day kindergarten at eight of its schools, with tuition-based classes available at two others, states a CKSD press release. Due to the recent success of the school levy passing, the district was able to expand its tuition-free, all-day kindergarten.
“This is a great thing for our community and for families,” said Superintendent Hazel Bauman. “Full-day kindergarten really benefits children academically, socially and emotionally. It’s something our school board been working toward for a while now, and we’re all excited to see it become a reality.”
Registration for the 2014-15 year starts on March 5. Families are encouraged to register at their neighborhood elementary school between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
In order to register, children must be five years old on or before Aug. 31. Parents should bring copies of their child’s current state-issued birth certificate, proof of immunization and verification of current address.
