SILVERDALE – Beginning May 1, several sections of the Clear Creek Trail will be closed to conduct floodplain restoration work and install three new foot bridges. The entire project areas, just north of Waaga Way, will be closed to public access for safety concerns. In the meantime, detours will be set up along Silverdale Way for trail walkers to go around the construction site. The closure is anticipated to be in place until October 1.

Clear Creek Wetland and Floodplain Restoration Project has multiple benefits for people and fish. This includes reconnecting the creek to its historical meandering form, reducing localized downstream flooding, and providing filtration and space for stormwater. With the addition of side channels, pools, wetlands, gravels, and over 300 pieces of large wood in the stream, increased complexity will support healthy and diverse aquatic communities. Over 20 acres of invasive weeds will be removed and replanted with 70,000 native trees and shrubs. Once complete, trail walkers will enjoy new sections of trail and three footbridges.

This project is the largest and most complex of many restoration efforts spread throughout the watershed.

The project is being constructed by Seton Construction of Port Townsend, and was designed by Natural Systems Design, under the supervision of Kitsap County Public Works. Funding is provided by Kitsap County Public Works Stormwater Division, Roads Division, and a grant from state Department of Ecology.
