A resolution that will allow for the closing of NW Bucklin Hill Road between Blaine Avenue NW and Mickelberry Road NW is on the agenda at today’s meeting of the Kitsap County Commission.

Commissioners will address the resolution that is needed to allow for the enhancement of the Bucklin Hill Estuary and bridge construction on Bucklin Hill Road.

It is a part of a $16.5 million project that is expected to be completed by December of 2015. The road is anticipated to be closed from April 1, 2014, to December 31, 2015.

According to County Engineer Jonathan Brand, the project team looked at closing the road to one lane traffic during the project but found that traffic issues would not helped and having traffic in the area would complicate construction efforts. Construction time will also be lessened with the road closed.

Hence, county officials are in the process of developing detour plans that will be implemented during construction.

“It’s important that we recognize that the closure will result in significant delays for Silverdale motorists,” Brand wrote in a document for commissioners.

“While the vast majority of drivers will accept the temporary inconvenience, there will be others unable to accept the closure as a feasible alternative.”

However, Brand said he favors closing the road during the construction. Century Link and the Central Kitsap Community Council also submitted letters supporting the street closure.

Commissioners will take up the issue at their regular business meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the commission chambers at the Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division St., Port Orchard.
