Vicki Collins was elected president of the Bremerton School Board Dec. 9 by a 5-0 vote, replacing Dave Boynton as the head of the board.
Collins is the longest-serving director, having been on the board for seven years. She has previously served as vice president of the School Board three times.
The school board’s greatest challenge will be determining the district’s cuts for the 2011-2012 budget, she said. The district faces an estimated $2.1 million budget shortfall next year, said Wayne Lindberg, director of finance and operations.
“We’re going to be faced with some really serious cuts in the future,” Collins said. “But for small districts like ourselves, we’ll feel it a lot deeper.”
Dave Rubie was elected vice president of the School Board by a 5-0 vote. He replaces Carolynn Perkins at the post. Rubie is the newest member of the board, appointed in April to fill the vacancy left by former board member Louis Mitchell, who resigned in February.
Both Collins’ and Rubie’s terms will expire in 2011.
