Kitsap food Co-op looking for new board members
The Kitsap Community Food Co-op will be holding new board elections due to a change in the co-op’s fiscal year. Last spring, the board made the decision to change the fiscal year to a July-June cycle. This change enables the co-op to more effectively plan a budget and prepare for the opening for a store. In accordance with co-op bylaws, this change also requires a new board election.
Although applicants must be co-op member-owners, the board encourages members of the community who are not currently involved with the co-op to take interest. The co-op is looking for people who have a passion for their community and a willingness to put their skills to use for the membership. Becoming a member-owner is an easy process and a worthwhile investment into a business that is not only a source of local food, but also a gathering place for community education and nutrition.
The Board of Directors is the legal representative of the member-owners and is responsible for the overall well-being of the co-op. The board supports the planning and implementation of the co-op’s strategic plan with the input of the member-owners. Board members are member-owners in good standing with the Kitsap Community Food Co-op and are not paid employees.
Interested parties are encouraged to download and submit a Board Member application by September 15. 2014. The form can be downloaded from the Kitsap Community Food Co-op website, http://kitsapfood.coop/blog/kcfc-board-elections-2014/.
