$500-$1,000 Future Business Leader scholarships open
The Future Business Leader scholarship focuses on students from the career and technical education) track in CK School District and is open to students who would attend a community or technical college to obtain an AA degree or certificate in a specialty and return to work in the Silverdale/CK community. Requires a 3.0 average and 360 hours of CTE track course hours.
The scholarship is valued at $500 to $1,000. No one has applied for this scholarship yet. Deadline to apply is Feb. 27. Contact the chamber at 360-692-6800 for more information.
$300,000 in Olympic College scholarships available
The Olympic College Foundation will provide over $300,000 in scholarship support to students attending Olympic College during the 2015–2016 academic year.
To be considered for any of the over 125 scholarships, applicants must fill out a scholarship application which can be found online at www.TheWashBoard.org.
Scholarship deadlines vary from Sunday, March 15 to Sunday, April 19.
Juried art show open through Feb. 28
BREMERTON — The 2015 CVG Show, a state-wide juried art competition, will run through Feb. 28, at the Collective Visions Gallery, 331 Pacific Ave.
Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday hours are noon to 4 p.m.
Tickets are $17 and a VIP table of four is $120.
The 106 artists in this year’s show hail from 44 towns and cities. The artwork ranges from sculptures eight feet tall to hand crafted jewelry and computer generated fractal imagery to hand woven fiber art.

Tax experts collecting for food bank
SILVERDALE —Dennis Bryan and Johnnie Hawkins, owners of Parker Mooers and Cena and Olympic Tax and Business Consulting, along with associated financial advisor, Peter J. Taafe, will partner to collecting unopened, nonperishable food, laundry detergent, and diapers for the Central Kitsap Food Bank.
A collection bin has been set up in the lobby at 9222 NW Bayshore Dr, Suite 150. Items will be accepted until April 15.

Bi-monthly lunches at The Willows

BREMERTON — The Bremerton area Meals on Wheels program is seeking volunteer home-delivery drivers on Fridays.
Volunteers deliver hot meals to homebound seniors in the Bremerton area. The time commitment is 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Drivers use their own vehicles, however mileage reimbursement is available.

Antique show and appraisal fair comes to Kitsap
The only antique show in Kitsap County makes its sixth annual appearance at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Feb. 28 and March 1.
The show takes place Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the President’s Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Parking is free. A food court will be open. Entry to the show is $6 per person.

Discover “E” Day: National Engineers Week
Hands-on Science Activities for Children Offered at Naval Undersea Museum.
Engineers design the cars we drive, capture energy from the sun and take us into space. On Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Naval Undersea Museum, engineers will turn ideas into reality for children as part of National Engineers Week.
This is the 17th year the Museum has participated in Discover “E” Day. According to Museum Director, Lindy Dosher, “Several hundred young people and their parents usually join us for this event.
The volunteer engineers are actively engaged with young people all day. They are enthusiastic teachers and role models for the scientists of the future.”

Mental health first aid training March 24
A nationally acclaimed Youth Mental Health First Aid course educates adults about how to provide help to a young person experiencing a mental health challenge, mental disorder, or mental health crisis.
The course is offered March 24 at Kitsap Mental Health Services in Bremerton and taught by KMHS staff certified as instructors through the national MHFA program. There is no cost for the eight-hour training.

Free golf on March 9 in Port Orchard
The Village Greens Golf Course, in Port Orchard, will re-open for the 2015 season on Monday, March 9 with free golf for everyone who attends this day.
The course will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Guests will be eligible to win prizes by participating in a variety of golf contests. In addition, PGA golf professional Bruce Weir will offer free instructional clinics at intervals throughout the day.
Village Greens Golf Course is located at 2298 Fircrest Drive Southeast in Port Orchard, across from the Orchard Heights Elementary School. March hours at the course will be 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., Wednesdays through Mondays. The course will be closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.

Workshops scheduled for potential school board candidates
The Washington State School Directors’ Association will hold a series of 14 workshops throughout Washington in March and April to encourage citizens to serve on their local school boards.
The Become a School Board Member workshops are free and will last two hours. They will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of a school director and how to file to become a candidate.
The workshops are scheduled for March and April, well before the May 12 filing week. Each workshop will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
