Exchange host families needed
ASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE) is seeking local host families for international high school boys and girls. These students are 15 to 18 years of age and are coming to this area for the upcoming high school year or semester. These personable and academically selected exchange students are conversant in English, bright and curious to learn about this country through living as part of a family, attending high school and sharing their own culture and language with a host family. The exchange students arrive from their home country shortly before school begins and return at the end of the school year or semester. Each ASSE student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to contribute to his or her share of household responsibilities, as well as being included in normal family activities and lifestyles. The students are well screened and qualified by ASSE. Families can choose their students from a wide variety of backgrounds, nationalities and personal interests.

Pilates studio to offer unique class
BODY reFORM is offering Pilates Plus for Parkinson’s disease. The class is designed for clients diagnosed with Parkinson’s who want to keep moving. Simple Pilates-based and other exercises for flexibility, strength, balance and fun will be taught. Movements will be done seated or standing and with support if needed. Those attending will be able to rest when tired. Bring your own chair.

Wine Festival nets major funds
The sixth annual Kitsap Wine Festival hit record breaking numbers for its fundraiser that supports Harrison Medical Center. The event, hosted by the Kitsap Conference Center and Harrison Medical Center Foundation, was held on Aug. 9 and raised $60,000. Festival revelers enjoyed selections from Anthony’s at Sinclair Inlet, Bremerton Bar & Grill, Gold Mountain Golf Club, Bella Bella Cupcakes, nearly 30 wineries and for the non-wine drinkers, Hales Ales and Silver City Brewery.
“The sixth annual Kitsap Wine Festival at Harborside Fountain Park at Kitsap Conference Center is the only event where the City closes this gorgeous park to have community members and marina visitors celebrate our fountains, flowers, and the many friendly people who come out to support the Harrison Medical Center Foundation,” said Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent. “I am truly honored to be the City of Bremerton’s Mayor.”
Kitsap Conference Center General Manager Arne Bakker enjoyed seeing local businesses, wineries and city leadership working together for the success of the event.
“This event continues to get better every year. Our team enjoyed planning and hosting this event for the Harrison Medical Center Foundation,” said Bakker. “It feels great knowing that we were directly supporting such a worthy cause.”
Troop 1539 invites the public to BBQ
Local Boy Scout Troop 1539 welcomes the public to join in for a family fun barbecue on Aug. 24. The event is to raise money for summer camp 2015. Guests can expect catered barbecue of pulled pork and brisket with sides. Games will include a dunk tank, blow dart range, bounce house, tomahawk throw and more. There will also be a Heads or Tails auction for $10 a pop. A coin flip determines if the winner gets an Asus laptop or a Sphero robot ball. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. BPD offering free gun locks to public
The Bremerton Police Department has a select number of gun locks that are available for free to gun owners until the department runs out of locks. The locks go into the trigger guard. Stop by the police department office and ask for a free lock during daytime hours. The address is 1025 Burwell St. in Bremerton.

Public forum set for WTP 2035
The Washington State Transportation Commission is seeking broad public comment on its draft Washington Transportation Plan (WTP 2035), a plan designed to chart the course for how the statewide transportation system will change and grow over the next 20 years.
To help meet this objective, the commission is gathering statewide ideas, comments and concerns from the general public through online comments, a webinar and upcoming in-person forums.
A forum will be at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 Sixth St. in Bremerton.
The public can view the plan at www.wtp2035.com or on the commission’s website: www.wstc.wa.gov. The website provides an opportunity for members of the public to comment directly on the plan. Comments are also accepted by email (Transc@wstc.wa.gov) or by mail (P.O. Box 47308 Olympia, WA 98504-7308) through Sept. 25.
Hospice expands care services
Surveyors from the Washington State Department of Health have licensed Hospice of Kitsap County to begin providing private-duty home care under the name Peninsula Health Care. The 35 year-old nonprofit agency will begin providing home care services to current hospice patients immediately, with plans to offer services to the general public by the beginning of 2015.
Hospice of Kitsap County is the only Hospice provider in the county licensed to provide home care. Through Peninsula Home Care the agency will offer supportive, in-home care by licensed healthcare professionals. Services offered include personal care (such as bathing and grooming), housekeeping, meal preparation, and more.

Gommenginger, Executive Director of Hospice of Kitsap County. “I am honored to be able to extend our mission of providing dignity, compassion, and comfort to more people in Kitsap County.”
