RED CROSS BENEFIT: The Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3586, located at 4230 Lincoln Hill Road, and the Buz Whiteley Big Band present an evening of music and dancing from 7:30-11 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. There will be no admission charged but a donation would be appreciated; all proceeds go to the Red Cross for the benefit of the Haitian people who have been devastated by the recent earthquake. FIGHT AGAINST MALARIA: The Ivory Coast Medical Relief Team will be at a table at Central Market in Poulsbo to talk to people and get donations for mosquito nets in the fight against malaria from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, which is International Malaria Awareness Day. VILLAGE GREEN: A community celebration to commemorate the completion of Village Green community center’s (Boys & Girls Club, senior center, library) architectural drawings will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club. There will be cake, cookies and non-alcoholic beverages. There also will be information about next steps for the Metropolitan Park District (MPD) to help you decide whether or not you might be interested in running for MPD commissioner and news about how 2010 is shaping up for the Village Green Community Park and the planned community center. NORTH KITSAP TRAILS: North Kitsap Trails Association will host two workshops to discuss trail networks. Workshops are scheduled for 7 p.m., April 22 in the North Kitsap Fire and Rescue station on Miller Bay Road and 7 p.m. April 28 in the Poulsbo Fire Station on Libetry Road. HOOKED ON FISHING: The Poulsbo Noon Lions Club and North Kitsap Future Farmers of America will host a Hooked on Fish Derby for children 11 and younger, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the horticulture pond behind Poulsbo Junior High. The event is free and bait is provided. Fishing poles are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so if children have poles, please bring them along. The pond will be stocked with about 500 rainbow trout. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish in each age category. Parents are encouraged to help, but not fish. This is a fun-filled family activity that can help children develop a lifelong passion for fishing. Complimentary fish cleaning will be provided by NKFFA.

SEEKING DOCENTS: The Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport is currently recruiting for the Youth Docent Volunteer Program. The program offers young people work experience in a museum. Volunteers work five hours a day three days a week during the busy summer months as well as a few hours monthly during the winter months. Work begins as soon as school is out in the spring. Teens must be between the ages of 13-17 to participate. Youth Docents serve as educational aides and curatorial assistants. They will research, design and build an exhibit. SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: The Nature Conservancy is looking for volunteer stewards to help monitor Foulweather Bluff preserve, a nature preserve in northern Kitsap County near Hansville. Our stewards visit the preserve during busy summer months and keep us informed of activities there. Shifts are two hours, twice per month. SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP: A new group for survivors of suicide will meet monthly in Bremerton to offer a setting for family members or friends who have lost someone to suicide. The group is scheduled to meet on the second Thursday of each month from 5:30-7 p.m.

A HOLY JOURNEY: “Living with Illness, loss and death” will be held the first Tuesday of each month.
