CANDIDATE FORUM: The North Kitsap Republican Women will be hosting a candidate forum from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6 at the Poulsbo Fire Station on State Route 305. Candidates who have agreed to participate include Pete DeBoer, running for State Rep. Leg District 23, Position 1 against Sherry Appleton; and James Olsen and Aaron Winter, both running for State Rep. Leg District 23, Position 2 against Christine Rolfes. The public is invited.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE: North Kitsap Fishine is accepting donations of new school supplies through Aug. 20. Donations can be dropped off at the food bank, Curves of Poulsbo, Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce, City of Poulsbo, or Edward Jones offices — Glenn Anderson and Carol Glad: 19032 Jensen Way NE; Pat McFadden: 19740 7th Ave. NE, Suite F; Donna Strep: 202 Front St., Suite 102; Todd Tidball: 18887 State Highway 305 NE, Suite 100. More than 350 backpacks, with supplies, are expected to be passed out this year. SUMMER BLOWOUT: For one day only, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, everything at the North Kitsap Fishline Thrift Store is 20-75 percent off. We also gladly accept donations of quality used items, including furniture. All proceeds support the non-profit Fishline food bank and client services. MONDAY

FOLK DANCE PROGRAM: Well-known Norwegian dance instructor Karin Brennesvik and her daughter Arnhild will perform intricate country dances from Telemark and Neumedal, Norway, at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at the Poulsbo Sons of Norway, 18891 Front St., Poulsbo. Tom Lovli and his son, Vette also are in the group. The program will be followed by a gammaldans. There will be two workshops at 3:30 p.m.: one for the halling and one for the Bygedans. POND AND WATER GARDEN TOUR: The Olympic Koi, Goldfish & Water Garden Club will host its 11th annual Pond and Water Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. The ponds are located throughout Kitsap County at club members’ homes. Tickets are $5 for adults (cash or check, only). Children younger than 18 are free when accompanied by an adult. POULSBO HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Poulsbo Historical Society will not meet during the month of August. The next regular membership meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Sons of Norway Hall.

WOMEN’S BOOK CLUB: A Women’s Wealth Book Club will meet from 5-8 p.m. the second Thursday of the month at the First Lutheran Church, 18920 4th Avenue NE, Poulsbo. The book club begins Sept. 9. Cost is $10 per month and includes dinner. WWBC’s purpose is to bring high-achieving business women and independent professionals together in discussion, learning, and networking. Toiletries and accessories are collected for donations to local women’s shelters at each meeting.

HANDS-ON GARDENING FOR KIDS: From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Monday through Aug. 16, crafts and hands-on gardening experiences are offered for parents and children at the Youth Garden at Frank Raab Park in Poulsbo. Donations are welcome.

WELLNESS SUPPORT GROUP: Peninsula Cancer Center, 19917 7th Ave., Poulsbo, is sponsoring a wellness support group from 4-5:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month. The topics of the group include stress reduction and relaxation. Info: (360) 697-8000.

FREE FITNESS CLASS: Kitsap Aikido is offering a free drop-in fitness class to the public from 6-6:45 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 650 NW Bovela Lane No. 5 in Poulsbo. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVERS’ SUPPORT GROUP: Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with dementia. A free information and support group for care partners, family members and friends of individuals with dementia will be from 7-8:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Harrison Medical Center Annex, 750 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton.
