Fathoms o’ Fun’s Concerts on the Bay had another successful season and an increase in attendance, according to Kim Punt, vice-chair for the event.

Punt estimated more than 10,000 people attended 13 concerts during its 16th year.

“It’s about a 20 percent increase from the previous year, even without some of the big names we had in the past and the weather this summer,” Punt said.

The largest crowd was July 4 with more than 4,000 people attending the full day of live music by various groups.

Allan Mahaney, also on the Concerts on the Bay committee, said it rained during a concert in June and the first concert in September.

“We had some chilly days, but we still had some good crowds that came out,” Mahaney said. “We probably averaged about 650 to 700 people per concert.”

Fathoms o’ Fun started the concert series in 1997, then Kitsap County Parks and Recreation took over the event the following year. They had it until 2008, when Fathoms took over the series.

Punt said about 25 percent of people attending the concert live outside the Port Orchard area.

“We had regulars who came from Bremerton, Belfair, Olalla and Gig Harbor,” Punt said. “We get a lot of people from the peninsula.”

Punt said next year there will be some familiar faces, but Fathoms is looking to bring in some new talent.

“We’re in talks with Aaron Bing, a saxophonist who performed at Amy’s on the Bay this summer,” Punt said.

She also has a DJ scheduled for a children’s concert during next year’s July 4 event.

Punt said the concert series is put on by volunteers, but sponsor money helps pay for the entertainment.

“We did the advertising, the banners and we try to make it a good thing for the community,” she said.
