PORT ORCHARD — Cooling stations around Kitsap County will be open this weekend to help people deal with the extreme heat being predicted.
With weather predictions for temperatures into the high 90s and possibly over 100 degrees this weekend, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from Friday through Monday.
The stations have been coordinated by the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management. According to a news release issued by the department, the following places will be available for people to get relief from the heat and get some bottled water.
In North Kitsap, there are two locations — Poulsbo City Hall, 200 Moe St. NE, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and at North Point Church, 1779 NE Hostmark St., open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday and 5-8 p.m., on Sunday.
In Bremerton, there are also two locations. The Salvation Army at 832 6th St. is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Summit Ave Presbyterian Church, 403 S. Summit Ave. in Bremerton, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
And in South Kitsap, the mobile command center near the Port Orchard Marina at 707 Sidney Parkway is open from 1-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
