KINGSTON — The words “Proud Owner†are clearly engraved below Carolyn Seim’s name on her Kingston Mail & Print name tag.
And it’s obvious she and her co-workers live up to that statement through the pride they display while helping customers meet their copying, printing, mailing and shipping needs.
“We’re all about service, service, service,†she said.
Since Seim purchased the business in October 2004, “the system has improved,†she said. “Customer service is fabulous.â€
The business can ship and sign for packages through all the national shippers, including UPS, DHL and FedEx, plus provide the same services as the United States Postal Service. In fact, mailing with those national shippers can be cheaper than going through the USPS, she said.
To help cut costs further, the business sells recycled packing materials. People can donate their extra packing peanuts, Styrofoam, plastic pillows and bubble wrap, since they typically cannot be placed in the garbage, Seim said. Those materials are then resold to customers at typically half the cost of brand new packaging materials.
“We do pass the savings on,†she said. “It’s a win-win.â€
The business also works as a drop off point for all delivery companies, including USPS, and service is free if the packages or envelopes are ready to be sent.
“As long as I don’t have to do any work, it’s free,†she said.
However, there is a handling fee if assistance is required, such as retrieving and filling out mailing labels, getting boxes and packing it up for the client.
But if one does choose to do this through Kingston Mail & Print, it’s much cheaper than doing it through the national carriers, she said, noting that these companies stick customers with more expensive charges for the delivery people to pack the items and ship them.
For those who don’t have a mailbox at their residence, Kingston Mail & Print has personal mailboxes, similar to USPS post office boxes. The mailboxes are accessible 24-hours a day. When the store is closed, box owners use a personal identification number to unlock the door to get to the boxes.
The business also offers mail forwarding, which is a big deal for those who are snowbirds during the winter, Seim said. As for copy and printing services, “we can do above average copying jobs,†she added.
There are two black and white copiers and a full color copier that does an impressive job of color replications. Co-worker Nick Chrisman recently copied a local artists’ painting on the color copier and it came out looking like the original.
Aside from helping customers, Chrisman is also the creative force behind the business. He is often designing print jobs, such as invitations, company brochures, fliers for local rock bands, stationary and business cards, which all can be done in full color or black and white.
Kingston Mail & Print also sells office supplies, everything from packing supplies to paper clips.
“If you need a folder, where are you going to go in Kingston?†Seim said. “It saves a trip to Silverdale.â€
Customers can come in for notary services and rent time on the computer and scanner. They can receive and send faxes as well.
“People come in for all the services,†Seim said.
As for the future, she said she wants to bring in Western Union to serve the Hispanic community and tap into the eBay market for those who are constantly shipping their goods from their eBay auctions.
But the biggest increase she would like to see is through the printing services. Because shipping is such a cyclical industry, bringing in more print jobs would help offset the slow shipping times of the year, Seim said.
“Something to even off the business side of it,†she said.
