Kitsap County Coroner Greg Sandstrom confirmed Monday that the remains found inside a mobile home in Illahee are those of Paymela Jean Long.

Sandstrom said she died by “homicidal violence” before the fire burned her home to the ground.

Sandstrom added that the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.

Long’s body was found following an early morning fire at the Illahee Shores Mobile Home Park, located at 4330 Illahee Road in East Bremerton, Saturday.

A neighbor called 911 around 6 a.m. to report flames shooting out of the single-wide mobile home, according to Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Deputy Scott Wilson, KCSO spokesman. The caller also reported hearing explosions coming from the residence.

The neighbor attempted to enter the burning mobile home to search for occupants, but was driven back by flames and smoke, according to Wilson.

CKFR and Bremerton Fire Department crews arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters laid more than 800 feet of hose down a steep driveway to reach the home, according to CKFR. Crews used more than 15,000 gallons of water and suppressant foam as they worked to contain the fire, evacuate neighbors and protect the adjacent residence.

When crews were able to go inside the mobile home, they found Long’s body inside the structure’s remains, Wilson said.

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the blaze started in a bedroom, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
