Parks planning
workshop slated
The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is undertaking a process that will eventually result in the development of long-term management plans for the central Kitsap-area state parks, which include Blake Island, Manchester, Illahee, and Scenic Beach state parks, as well as the Square Lake and Camp Calvinwood state properties.
The public is invited to attend a workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 10 at the Kitsap Fairgrounds and Events Center.
The purpose of the workshop is to familiarize interested parties with the upcoming planning process and to identify issues, concerns or ideas they want us to address.

Family farm film
will be screened
An independent film tracing the history of a family farm will be shown at 7 p.m. on May 6 at the Norm Dicks Center in Bremerton.
“The Real Dirt on Farmer John — An epic tale of a Maverick Midwestern Farmer” tells of the experiences the farmer encounters as he evolves into the successful farmer he is today.
The film. shown on PBS, is meant to be a story of transformation that shows how farmers have adapted in order to survive changing times.
The event is free and open to the public.
Master Gardeners
will host plant sale
The Master Gardener Foundation of Kitsap County will hold its annual Mother’s Day weekend plant sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 9 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, Van Zee Building.
The sale will include more than 28 varieties of tomatoes, eight varieties of peppers, 800 fuchsia starts, hanging baskets, lots of native plants and a wide variety of houseplants and annuals and perennials.
Kitsap County Master Composters will demonstrate the use of the bins for both composting and growing potatoes.

group to meet
The Puget Rental Owner’s Association will hold its monthly dinner meeting seminar at 6 p.m. on April 29 at AA China Buffet, 3583 Wheaton Way in East Bremerton.
The guest speakers will be Deputy Jim Gastineau and Lt. Kathy Collings from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department.
