Kitsap County will receive $148,115 in state grants for salmon recovery projects, the state Recreation and Conservation Office announced in a release Monday. The money will be used for two specific projects in the county, according to a report from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board of the Recreation and Conservation Office.

The county will use $48,115 of the money to complete an analysis for replacing a culvert that is blocking fish passage on Chico Creek at Golf Club Hill Road in Central Kitsap. The Kitsap County Parks and Recreation Department will use $100,000 to purchase 252 acres of land to create and protect a 700-acre area near Kingston. This aims to protect the headwaters of Grovers Creek and an unnamed stream.

In total, the state is awarding $20.7 million to counties across the state for restoration projects that will protect salmon.
