Crash claims life of South Kitsap man

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating whether alcohol or drugs caused a single-vehicle crash that killed a South Kitsap man early Thursday morning.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating whether alcohol or drugs caused a single-vehicle crash that killed a South Kitsap man early Thursday morning.

According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Mark Daniel Johnson, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue medics. The wreck happened about 3:43 a.m. in the 10600 block of Glenwood Road SW.

A preliminary police report stated that Johnson was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer SUV southbound on Glenwood Road at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the SUV and it rolled ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

The report stated it was unknown how many times the SUV rolled or tumbled, but the vehicle came to a stop on its wheels and the roof was crushed. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sheriff’s traffic deputies are investigating whether alcohol or drugs caused the crash.

A section of Glenwood Road between SW Youwood Way and SW Wildwood Road was closed off to traffic until investigators cleared the scene at about 9:15 a.m.
