Dancing with daddy

Dads and daughters will soon have a chance to get dressed up and cut a rug together.

The Professional Fire Fighters of Kitsap County Local 2819 will host its first-ever Father-Daughter Dance 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds President’s Hall.

“Father-daughter dances are normally held in February, so this gives the people who missed that dance the opportunity to go to this one,” said Lance Thornton, with Local 2819.

Tickets are $12 per person and all proceeds from the event will benefit the Local 2819 Benevolent Fund.

Thornton said the firefighters pitched the father-daughter dance idea to the Local 2819 board and they approved, so planning moved forward.

Each daughter will receive a rose and photo with her father. Cake, beverages and snacks will be available and dress is casual to semi-formal.

“This gives dads and daughters something special to do,” Thornton said. “It cements that bond between them.”

The Central Kitsap School District PTA has hosted father-daughter dances in February at the Fairgrounds for the past couple years and the organization is helping Local 2819 get their dance ready to go.

Thornton said the President’s Hall can hold hundreds of people and Local 2819 hopes to see a decent-sized turnout.

“We haven’t sold as many tickets as we’d like to yet,” he said. “This is kind of like a test-the-waters type of event.”

Tickets may be purchased online at www.firefightersdance.org or in-person from firefighters noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Silver City Restaurant & Brewery at 2799 NW Myhre Road in Silverdale.
