SILVERDALE — From camping gear to archery, golf to kayaking, basketball, soccer, fishing and everything in between, the need for sporting goods will likely be satisfied by Kitsap Mall’s newest department store, DICK’S Sporting Goods.

DICK’S Sporting Goods officially opened its ninth Washington store Sept. 30, kicking things off with a three-day event that included giveaways, sales and even a guest appearance by former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg.

The first 100 customers in line each day received free gifts. Friday, Adidas Go-To Performance T-shirts were given. Saturday and Sunday’s giveaway was a mystery gift card, with values of up to $500.

Walking through the front doors, customers were immediately greeted by DICK’S employees offering information about the event, the sales and the DICK’S loyalty program. Right behind their table, any 12th man would have been pleased to see a section dedicated to Seattle Seahawks gear and merchandise.

“We’re pleased to be opening our newest DICK’S Sporting Goods in Silverdale, which will enable us to better serve the needs of athletes and passionate sports fans in the community,” said Lauren Hobard, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for DICK’S, in a press release.

Aside from sports paraphernalia, clothing is also sold at the new location, including Nike and Under Armour shops. Plus, the store is “one of the first to include a new and improved footwear section designed to offer a broad selection of sports performance and casual footwear,” the press release stated.

Indeed, the store is an easy-to-navigate cornucopia of sporting goods. Turn left at the front entrance and you get hunting, fishing and camping gear, which seamlessly flows into gear for team sports. At the entrance, customers find clothing and footwear sections, which lead into bicycling and workout gear.

DICK’S Sporting Goods is a nationwide franchise with 660 stores, including Silverdale. The store is open 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with a street entrance next to Barnes and Noble, as well as a mall entrance.
