Poulsbo’s loss is Bainbridge Island’s gain.
The city north of BI months ago decided not to host a troll made by Thomas Dambo, as it didn’t want to spend the money.
So BI will join West Seattle, Issaquah, Vashon Island, Ballard and Portland OR in hosting a troll, which promises to be an attraction for tourists and locals alike.
On Aug. 5, Friends of the Bainbridge Troll will be at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art Block Party with a surprise for the community. On Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m. there will be an artist talk and book signing at BIMA. And on Aug. 18 the Dambo team has tentatively set the unveiling.
According to the bainbridgetroll.org website, Dambo is the world’s leading recycle artist and is famous for his art installations around the world, most notably his troll sculptures. Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King is a public art project consisting of six giant hand-built troll sculptures by the Danish environmental artist.
Friends of the Bainbridge Troll has already collected $50,000 in donations. It is seeking donations of another $30,000 to make it a reality. To help, go to www.bainbridgetroll.org/donate
