POULSBO — Over the past few weeks, the Poulsbo Police Department has received several reports from the community reporting telephone solicitation scams.
The caller identification number shows 360-779-3113, which is the main number to the police department. The callers request “donations” for a variety of causes on behalf of law enforcement.
These calls are indeed scams, Poulsbo Police Chief Dan Schoonmaker reported Sept. 26.
“The Poulsbo Police Department does not participate in telephone solicitations, nor do we have any program that requests donations from the community,” Schoonmaker reported. “Unfortunately, telephone solicitation scams are very common and well-intended people are frequently victimized. The Poulsbo Police Department, along with all other law enforcement agencies, urge you to carefully research any type of solicitation for donation and report suspected scams.
“Guard your personal information, especially when dealing with people over the phone or internet, and verify that the source of the solicitation is legitimate.”
