MILLER BAY — Excessive speed has been determined to be a cause of a one-car fatality on Miller Bay Road Feb. 17.
Miller Bay was closed for five hours Tuesday morning as North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews and Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated the accident.
NKF&R firefighters reported to the 24800 block of Miller Bay Road between NE West Kingston Road and NE Orseth Road around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Crews found a blue 1969 Ford Fairlane 4-door sedan in the bushes and an adult man in his mid-20s ejected from the vehicle. KCSO deputies said the man died at the scene of the accident.
The release of the driver’s name and cause of death are pending completion of an investigation and authorization by the Kitsap County Coroner.
KCSO officials said the driver was traveling northbound on Miller Bay and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle left the road and struck a large tree, then rolled onto its right side and struck a second tree where it stopped.
It is undetermined if he was wearing a seat belt and alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the cause of the accident, officials reported.
