Drivers and dogs shaken but OK after Poulsbo crash

POULSBO — No major injuries were reported in a two-car, rollover collision that snarled traffic Thursday at the intersection of State Route 305 and Viking Way. A Mercedes sedan driven by a 72-year-old Bainbridge Island woman collided with a Dodge truck shortly before noon. Neither driver was transported to a hospital, Poulsbo Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Matson said.

Jim Hennessey said he was driving his truck southbound on SR 305 when the collision happened.

“I don’t really know what happened,” he said. “I just got hit and was spinning like crazy, that’s all. It scared the heck out of me.”

The truck rolled onto its passenger side and came to rest facing north in the southbound lane. The Mercedes stopped in the middle of the intersection.

Hennessey was driving with two golden retrievers. One bolted from the scene following the collision and was missing for several minutes. A passerby later retrieved the wayward dog after seeing it darting through traffic. Both dogs suffered small cuts to their faces.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the collision.
