Drunk driver runs red light, rolls car into ditch

A 55-year-old Silverdale man was charged with DUI and reckless driving after crashing his car into a ditch and rolling it near the Newberry Hill Road off-ramp from State Route 3 at 7:28 p.m. Thursday.

The man, driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra, was exiting SR 3 to Newberry Hill Road at a high rate of speed when he ran the red light and continued to the on-ramp to get back on the freeway. His vehicle left the road to the right, overcorrected to the left, striking the ditch and coming to a rest on the car’s passenger side.

The man had been failing to yield to a Washington State Patrol trooper prior to the collision. The trooper was not involved in the collision. The man was not injured, but was transported to Harrison Medical Center Bremerton for possible alcohol poisoning.
