A 22-year-old Kingston resident found out humming over, rather than listening to, Miranda rights doesn’t prevent an arrest.

According to Kitsap County Sheriff’s reports, June 30 the man was on foot at the Kingston Ferry dock yelling at a 20-something couple that the driver had run a red light.

“He was being confrontational, acting in a threatening manner and cursing them,” the report states. The wife as afraid her husband “was going to take care of the situation himself.”

The couple flagged down a deputy as he was pulling into the driveway at the KSCO North Office. They told the deputy that a shirtless, curly-headed man was harassing people at the Kingston ferry dock. They saw the man in downtown Kingston and the couple identified him, then left to catch their ferry.

The deputy went back to the dock to find the man, but was summoned by another deputy to the back parking lot of the Filling Station for an unrelated call. The shirtless, curly-headed man was there. He ran. The deputy chased him.

Another deputy drove ahead and caught the man in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Georgia Street and Central Avenue.

“While I was reading his rights to him, he started humming and told me he wasn`t listening. I finished reading his rights to him and asked if he understood. He wouldn`t answer me,” the report stated.

The man was arrested and booked on several charges: disorderly conduct, failure to obey a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and a preexisting warrant.
