A 25-year-old sailor is accused of assaulting a Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy who found him drunk and running down a Silverdale road early Christmas morning.

Deputies were called to an area near Silverdale Way NW and NW Mountain View Road after a cab driver reported the man had refused to pay his fair and then tried to assault the driver, according to reports.

The driver told deputies he picked the man up at McCloud’s Bar and Grill, but after being driven home on Silverdale Way asked to be taken to Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. He then punched the driver’s window and fled on foot. A deputy spotted him running toward his cruiser. The suspect then struck the deputy’s window. The deputy struggled with the man and subdued him with force and pepper spray, binding his legs to keep him from kicking.

He was taken to the Kitsap County jail for investigation of third-degree assault, obstructing law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

It was the second man in two days who left the bar and was later booked into jail for assaulting a police officer. On Dec. 23 a 26-year-old Bremerton man who had been “cut off” at the bar was booked into jail for punching a Bremerton police officer.
