E. coli returns to safer levels at Kitsap Lake

People are still advised to avoid contact with water due to ongoing cyanobacteria warning

The Kitsap Public Health District announced Wednesday that E. coli bacteria levels at the Kitsap Lake Park swimming beach have returned to a safe enough level for human contact.

However, the continued presence of toxin-producing cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) in the water still poses health risks. The swimming beach is no longer closed for elevated E. coli levels, but KPHD advised the public to continue to avoid contact with water due to the cyanobacteria warning issued June 12.

Kitsap Public Health states they will continue to monitor the lake for both cyanobacteria and E. coli. No illnesses have been reported to Kitsap Public Health at this time.
