The timing was good.

The North Kitsap Eagles presented a check for $1,100 to Fishline on Tuesday, proceeds from a benefit dinner/dance March 19.

The check presentation followed the delivery of 185 pounds of food donated at the dinner/dance, and the check kept the momentum going into Saturday’s Protest March Against Hunger, starting at Fishline at 9:30 a.m.

Fishline Executive Director Karen Timken said the giving is all too important; the non-profit agency distributes 90,000 pounds of food a month. All told, it distributes $600,000 worth of donated food and $400,000 in financial aid a year.

Fishline’s sphere of influence was clear when one of the Eagles members told Timken after the presentation that Fishline had recently helped her family.

Specifically, the money was raised and presented by the Eagles’ Viking Travelers Club. Karen Dalton, club treasurer, made the presentation.

Norm Bates, worthy president of the North Kitsap Eagles, said the dinner/dance was an oldies rock ’n’ roll event. Westside Pizza donated eight extra-large pizzas; the club sold pizza slices for $1 each. Other funds raised came from ticket sales and donations.
