POULSBO — Conserving the Earth’s natural resources isn’t an option, it’s a responsibility.

Olympic College believes in this philosophy wholeheartedly. Each branch of Olympic College including OC-Poulsbo, will actively participate in environmentally-minded activities during Earth Day Week from April 16 through 19.

“Every campus is going to have events. The president of OC has signed a ‘climate commitment,’ and this effort is a result of that,” said OC communications director Jennifer Hayes. “The goal is to reduce the impact of our college campuses on the planet. As a college, we’re doing all we can to reduce negative impacts on our climate.”

OC-Poulsbo director Kelly Woodward said she is proud of the way the entire college community has came together for the project. Nearly 25 staff members from all three OC branches (Bremerton, Shelton, Poulsbo) have done prep work for the Earth Day Week extravaganza during the past three months.

“The whole community is taking part in it,” Woodward said. “Faculty, staff and students are working hard to put all of these events on.”

Making it even all that more remarkable is the fact that this is the first time Olympic College has had all three campuses officially participating in Earth Day activities.

“We feel as a institute of higher learning that it’s part of our job to be involved in something like this,” Woodward said. “It’s important for faculty and students partake in these kinds of activities.”

Woodward and Hayes are ecstatic to see a large amount of this year’s events available to the public inside friendly confines of OC-Poulsbo itself.

“We coordinated as much as could to bring in every event possible to the facility for Earth Day Week,” Woodward said. “It provides a wide spectrum of opportunities for learning. It will be a lot of fun.”
