BREMERTON — The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility joined its Pacific Northwest neighbors in exercising disaster response plans during Cascadia Rising 2016, a simulated 9.0 magnitude earthquake.
PSNS & IMF’s Bremerton shipyard participated in the regional drill from 8-11 a.m. June 7, testing its command and control functions, performing damage assessments and practicing internal communications with the shipyard’s workforce.
Also during the drill, shipyard participants reacted to simulated building damage and rendered aid to fellow workers with simulated injuries.
Officials said PSNS & IMF is committed to being as prepared as possible for a natural disaster; this exercise provided an opportunity to improve its emergency planning and coordinate with its regional neighbors in the event disaster strikes.
