This one has us scratching our heads to be sure. Puget Sound Energy is looking to offer improved emergency electrical service for the good people of Hansville and… they don’t seem to want it? Concerns range from noise and exhaust emitted from a proposed generator and suggestions include building a new substation for the community.
This one just doesn’t add up.
Within financial reason, PSE is just trying to provide a safe and temporary solution to help Hansville just in case the unpredictable Northwest weather takes a turn for the worse and sends trees toppling — which it has a tendency to do.
If PSE had substation funding for Hansville, it’d likely go ahead and build a nice, quiet substation. But, again, in the interest of resident safety and comfort officials are hoping to provide the next best thing in an emergency.
It isn’t as if PSE is coming in and dropping a bomb like, “We’ve decided to build a nuclear power plant next to the lighthouse.” Or trying to edge its way into town like say, Wal-Mart.
Officials at the company have the community’s best interests in mind and seem to have been working diligently toward a solution to potential winter problems in Hansville. Yet, their reception appears to be a tad on the frigid side.
If this debate lasts any longer, the shoe might be on the other foot for North Kitsap’s northernmost community.
If Hansville loses power this winter and everything goes black and cold, who do you think they’re gonna call? We assure you it won’t be the Ghostbusters.
