It’s never easy to know when to bring an end to an enjoyable endeavor that has become a staple of a publication for months, but that time has come for the Editor’s Challenge.

Last week, there weren’t any donations, but instead of ending it because of one bad week, the decision was made to hold out hope for one more week and if no one contributed, then the endeavor would end. That doesn’t mean the Stevensons have enough money to finish their home, because donations are still being accepted and everyone is encouraged to continue doing their part to help. It just means the Editor’s Challenge has ended officially.

A special thanks goes to everyone who stepped up and answered the call of a community newspaper editor, who was just looking for a way to help out a family in need and what started with $5 became more than $5,300. The final tally was $5,347.30. That in and of itself is simply an incredible reflection of the generosity that exists in Bremerton and Kitsap County.

In investment terms, that’s like winning the lottery, so once again thank you to everyone who gave what they could, especially with gas prices going out the roof and the cost of living skyrocketing as well. People still found ways to come up with $5 and much more to do their part to make a dream come true for a special family. Hopefully, their house will be completed by the end of this summer and everyone can join them for a housewarming party.
