Edmonds-Kingston ferry route capacity being reduced for three days

KINGSTON — Ferry re-assignments while the 202-vehicle Wenatchee is out of service is expected to add to wait times at the Edmonds and Kingston ferry docks Oct. 19-21.

The Wenatchee, which serves on the Seattle-Bainbridge route, will be out of service for its annual U.S. Coast Guard safety inspection, according to a press release from Washington State Ferries.

People planning to travel Edmonds-Kingston could see up to a four-vessel wait Oct. 19. Backups are expected to begin after 9 a.m. that day, and increase at noon.

Commuters driving on Oct. 20-21 should arrive early and expect a one- or two-vessel wait.

Alternatively, commuters can take the Seattle-Bainbridge route to avoid long lines, according to the press release.

The 188-vehicle Spokane and the 124-vehicle Kitsap will serve the Edmonds-Kingston route during the Wenatchee’s inspection.

The 188-vehicle Walla Walla that typically serves Edmonds-Kingston will be assigned to Seattle-Bainbridge.
